Mrs. Chase and Ms. KeKey's 2nd Grade Math Class have been introduced to the concept of multiplication using groups. In the following weeks students will begin learning about arrays (using columns and rows). They have been solving simple multiplication problems and learning the concepts of vocabulary terms like product and repeated addition. We are proud of their progress as we prepare for third grade. #WeirExcellenceShines

Mrs. Chase and Ms. KeKey's 1st Grade students have been working on bar graphs. They are learning how to answer questions from their bar graphs and create bar graphs, picture graphs, and tally graphs. #WeirExcellenceShines.
Mrs. Chase and Ms. Coleman update on Weir Robotics (3rd through 6th). Students have been working on their research for the STEM robotics competition. Researching the heart's anatomy and function (Reading books and listening to videos). Students are presenting their Google Slides presentation at their pre-competition in February. It will contain elements about heart anatomy and function, blood flow to and from the heart, and how robotics plays a crucial role in heart health, surgery, and recovery time. We have missed some days due to the winter storm, but we are looking forward to resuming on Monday (2nd) and Tuesday (3rd) of this upcoming week to regain progress. #WeirExcellenceShines

Mrs. Chase and Ms. KeKey's 1st Grade Math Class at Weir Elementary School are working on identification and creation of fractions. Understanding the parts and whole and what they mean. Here students are engaging in an activity that will help them understand their faction vocabulary and the concept of what is part and whole in the fraction problem. #WeirExcellenceShines

Mrs. Chase and Ms. KeKey's 2nd Grade Math Class at Weir Elementary School are working on fractions and multiplication. During this activity, students had several orders for pizzas with different toppings. Students created a fraction pizza, for example, one pizza order may be 1/3 pepperoni, 1/3 sausage, and 1/3 cheese. Then they explained how much someone would eat if they consumed more than one piece of the pizza. Students were working in pairs to fill an order of 7 pizzas at $5 dollars a piece using multiplication (repeated addition). We made many different "fraction" pizzas and prices using this activity. So proud of their engagement and math skills with this activity. #WeirExcellenceShines
