Students in Culinary Arts I finished up their unit on Communications and Customer Service by completing a kitchen lab in which they worked in groups to make a simple breakfast of blueberry muffins, scrambled eggs, bacon, and fruit salad. The catch: students had to work one at a time in the kitchen. They had 5 minutes to plan how they would complete the menu, then students entered the kitchen one at a time to work. They had 15-20 minutes to work on the menu items then 30 seconds to tell their group member the status of their foods. Then the next group member entered the kitchen to continue working on the menu. Students used their planning and communication skills to execute the menu.
